The art of contrast is a topic that the website Arxxitektura deals with. It is intended for everyone who is interested in the 21st century through the prism of art and architecture. My focus is on clarifying the gradual development of ideas that imposed the biggest names in art and thus greatly inspired architects to design their aesthetics as a response to the times in which they lived.
With the author's selection of drawings from art and architecture, I create a mosaic and explain the principles of contrast in the city's architectural fabric. Art of Contrast comes from the conclusion that from the 20th century onwards, CONTRAST in the urban fabric is a rule and not an incident. The selection of artists and their works is not a comprehensive analysis of the life and work of an artist or an architect but a function of elaborating on the chosen topic.
My architectural education is aimed at the protection and revitalization of architectural heritage, but the 20th century cannot be understood without knowing the artistic trends and authors of that time. Abstraction, the representation of the invisible, i.e. the artist's soul in painting led to visually radically different aesthetics in architecture as well.
The art scene exerted its influence on the architects and created a philosophical basis for the dialogue between the old and the new. Contemporary architecture in historical city centers has its equal position. This was made possible by the centuries-old development of ideas originating from artists and movements.
